Tivoli Day Trip
Home to two UNESCO World Heritage sites (Hadrian’s Villa and Villa D’Este), Tivoli is one of our favorite day trips from Rome.
Hadrian’s Villa is a vast complex of over 30 buildings, originally built in the 2nd century A.D. as a retreat for Emperor Hadrian. He was an architectural master who incorporated both his own innovations and some of his favorite Greek and Egyptian designs into his buildings.
In the 16th century, the Cardinal Ippolito d’Este also chose Tivoli to build his grand Villa d’Este. It is a remarkable example of Renaissance architecture and gardens. The beautiful gardens, waterfalls and fountains are not to be missed.
